How to use NPrinting in Qlik Sense Enterprise SaaS: Intro To Qalyptus

From the moment it launched, Qlik NPrinting quickly became one of the most beloved features of QlikView and Qlik Sense Client Managed. Users find it easy to use and quick to execute, and especially love the visually stunning reports it produces. Many can’t live without it.

Which is why users have been flummoxed to find that Qlik NPrinting isn’t available on Qlik Sense Enterprise SaaS, Qlik’s world-class cloud solution. For those looking to move to Qlik Sense Enterprise SaaS, and enjoy the many benefits it affords, the absence of Qlik NPrinting is sometimes enough to make them hesitate.

Fortunately, there’s a way to have the best of both worlds. Enter Qalyptus.

What is Qlik NPrinting?

“Qlik NPrinting is Qlik’s impressive reporting functionality,” says Yongli Ge, a business intelligence consultant at Tahola. “It allows you to create clear, elegant and informative reports from multiple apps and analytics sources. You can pull information from Microsoft Office PowerPoint, Excel and Word by dragging and dropping all the charts, tables and images you want to use, and you can incorporate all your relevant QlikView or Qlik Sense objects, data models and visualisations, too.”

With Qlik NPrinting, you can manage all your reports from a single platform, which makes it easier to dig deeper into your data. Qlik NPrinting is also built to scale, and totally secure. You can even implement row-level security and filters with control-based access if you like.

Added to this, its sharing functionality allows you to send your reports to the right people through the right channels at the right time. You can either distribute them according to a schedule you set or when certain conditions are met, and can issue them via email, your corporate directory, the web, the Qlik NPrinting NewsStand portal, or the Qlik Sense hub.

Qlik NPrinting is all about creating professional, accurate and high-quality reports that are a pleasure to share. As you can see, it’s hard not to love.

Is there a Qlik NPrinting solution in Qlik Sense Enterprise SaaS?

Here’s the catch. Unfortunately, Qlik NPrinting isn’t available in Qlik Sense Enterprise SaaS. Qlik Sense Enterprise SaaS does have its own built-in reporting functionality, but it’s not Qlik NPrinting.

Is there a third-party Qlik NPrinting solution then?

Yes!

This is the good news. At Tahola, we’ve developed the capacity to help our clients use a third-party solution that provides a Qlik NPrinting equivalent in Qlik Sense Enterprise SaaS. It’s called Qalyptus, and it’s a multi-tenancy solution that’s SaaS compatible.

With Qalyptus, you can design reports exactly as you would with Qlik NPrinting, pulling data in from any of your preferred tools and sharing the final product with ease.

“If you’re already an experienced Qlik NPrinting user, you’ll find the move to Qalyptus relatively easy, because the platforms are so similar,” continues Yongli. “There’s also no installation required. It just needs to be set up, and once it’s all connected, you can start building your reports straight away.”

Are there feature gaps between Qalyptus and Qlik SaaS?

Qalyptus has all of the features provided by NPrinting, which makes it an ideal solution for SaaS users. Its existing templates and built-in conditional formatting mean that you don’t have to build your designs from scratch, and it has all of the customisation features you’ve come to expect.

From a technical perspective, Qalyptus doesn’t work exactly the same way as Qlik NPrinting, but the differences are so small and the final product is so comparable that this is practically immaterial.

“Users will be comforted to hear that, when we ran Qalyptus in tandem with Qlik NPrinting, we were able to reconcile the two reports each solution produced,” says Yongli. “We wanted to make sure that the reports arrived at the same figures, and they did — exactly.”

How long will the migration take? Can I manage it myself?

The first step in migrating from Qlik NPrinting to Qalyptus is to move from your Qlik on-premises solution to Qlik Sense Enterprise SaaS. Doing so makes it possible to reap all the advantages of Qlik’s incredible cloud platform. These include:

  • Having a single location to access all of the Qlik Sense apps you use, as well as all of your analytics and reporting assets
  • Receiving real-time notifications that inform you of changes to your business, allowing you to capitalise on opportunities and address problems timeously
  • Accessing comprehensive analytics that can help you make informed decisions about your business’s trajectory and growth
  • Leveraging all of the features of a high-functioning cloud-based solution, including improved security, seamless scalability, and instant access to the latest updates

Once you’ve moved over to Qlik Sense Enterprise SaaS, you can start looking into implementing Qalyptus. If you get a little help with this process (and we strongly recommend you do), it usually takes about 10 days. This means that it shouldn’t interrupt your monthly reporting processes, though there may be a brief disruption if there are aspects of your business that need to be reported on weekly.

While getting used to Qalyptus is relatively easy, the migration itself does have some technical aspects to it and it’s a good idea to get an expert in to help with this process.

At Tahola, we’re not only Qlik experts, but we’re deeply familiar with Qalyptus, too. With our experience and expertise, we can make your migration — both from QlikView and Qlik Sense Client Managed to Qlik Sense Enterprise SaaS, and from Qlik NPrinting to Qalyptus — simple and streamlined.
